CWU Campaigning and Workers Rights
Nationally, the CWU is affiliated to the Labour Party. Although the influence we would like is not always enough, it is the case that without such a link, our influence would be considerably reduced.
CWU members can decide or not whether to pay a small levy of 10p out of their subscriptions. Only 2p goes to the Labour Party, the other 8p is used to fund CWU campaigns to challenge and / or change legislation for our members in many different businesses where we have members. Three current campaigns revolve around the Union wanting to see changes to the law in relation to dog attacks on postal staff, to worker for improvements for Agency Workers and to stop the privatisation of Royal Mail Group.
For these reasons alone, it is vital this levy is paid and we would encourage you to pay it.
Our Link with the Labour Party is always under review.
Nationally the CWU is affiliated to a number of campaigns following decisions which are taken at the Unions' Annual Conference. For our part, the Branch is very supportive of the following which we affiliate to locally. We would encourage you to click on the links and find out more for yourself :

Internationally, there are many campaigns for workers rights and we would strongly encourage you to check out the following link which will show just how bad things are for many people around the world:
Just take a couple of minutes to sign a petition. It could make a real difference to workers and their families in struggle. It is a big world out there and we need to understand how we can sometimes take our rights to be in a trade union for granted.
