Equality and Dignity in the Workplace

Family Friendly

Legislation has now given working people more individual rights to help them balance out their work and home lives.

The Union can assist and help you to make these rights work for you. If you have family issues that are affecting your work life, please talk to us on 01392 250479 or email via: westerncountiesamalcwu@yahoo.co.uk

Nationally, the CWU has an Equality Department where you can access a “tool kit” to help you understand your rights.

Bullying & Harassment in the Workplace

The CWU strongly condemns bullying and harassment of any kind whether this be from the Employer via your manager or carried out by colleagues who may also be members of the CWU.

If you are struggling with being harassed or bullied by either your manager or a work colleague, please do not suffer in silence.

If you cannot talk to anyone about it, please phone us at the Branch or via your area rep. Nationally, the Union has an in confidence harassment and bullying helpline operated by an external company:
Tel: 0800 107 1909

Harassment is unwanted and inappropriate behaviour that can reasonably be seen to affect someone’s dignity.

This behaviour can focus on someone’s age, creed, disability, nationality, race, sex, sexual orientation, family status or religion or indeed any other personal characteristic.

Bullying is intimidation and abuse of authority where a person will misuse their power to undermine the confidence and dignity of someone by unfairly criticising or humiliating them. This can be on a regular basis or as a one-off incident.

In some cases you may be able to make a claim to an Employment Tribunal. There are time limits set and if you believe you may have a claim, please do not hesitate to contact the Branch. Generally these time limits are 3 months less one day from the date of the last incident of bullying and/or harassment.

If you wish you can make an application for an Employment Tribunal online via: www.employmenttribunals.gov.uk . If you do so, please advise the Branch.
